The municipality of Ribeira Grande offers some of the best beaches in São Miguel.

The longest sand stretch of the Island is in the Santa Bárbara beach, in Ribeira Seca, also considered one of the best beaches in Europe to surf.

The Moinhos beach, with its whitish sand, is protected against the wind by the bay and the slope, and offers excellent conditions to spend the day.

In this small fishing village one may closely observe the preparations of the rituals before going to see, by the local fishermen. It also has an excellent beach.
