Residencial Sete Cidades

The crater of Sete cidades, west to Ponta Delgada, is a true touristic postcard of the Azores.

Here you will find a breathtaking landscape, with enchanted lakes involved in the magic of legends and a settlement that looks like it was taken from a fairy tale book.

Sete Cidades is a giant crater with a 12km perimeter. It was once a big volcano that after abased created two twin lakes: the Blue Lake and the Green Lake.

According to a legend these lakes appeared when a princess and a shepherd were denied their love.

The different colour waters are the result of the lover’s tears and
correspond to the colour of their eyes.

Take a walk by the lake’s shores and enjoy rare moments of relaxation and a close contact with the best that Nature has to offer. Close to the lakes the small settlement of Sete Cidades, many times veiled in a soft mist, seems to be touched by the magic of the legend.

With no doubt a visit to Sete Cidades is mandatory, even when visiting São Miguel for a few hours.

The lakes and the settlement of Sete Cidades are located in a massif with the same name.

Here you may find other lakes, not so big but also charming, like the Santiago Lake, the Canário Lake, Rasa Lake and the Empadadas Lake.

There are plenty of sites to visit in Sete Cidades. When arriving from Ponta Delgada one will find on the top of the massif the Vista do Rei, the place chosen by the king D. Carlos and the queen D. Amélia in 1901 to observe the lakes. This spot is today the place that thousands of people choose to observe that same view.

Contouring the massif, on foot or by car, you will find the Cerrado das Freiras and its park that are the entrance door to get a new perspective of the Lake, as well as a view over the Canário Lake and access to Santiago Lake.
