Sport Lisboa e Benfica played in São Miguel last
November 13rd.
Benfica played in the São Miguel Island
against the Santa Clara last November 13rd, in a friendly match of Pedro
Pauleta Trophy.
This match is part of the commemorations
of the Ponta Delgada Football Association 85th anniversary that was founded on
November 4th of 1924.
Pedro Pauleta began his football formation
in São Miguel, and represented the Santa Clara, Operário, Angrense and Micaelense
teams, before moving on to Estoril Praia which launched the Azorean player for
the European and World football. During his career he played 88 times for Portugal National Squad and
became their top scorer with 47 goals. The match toke place in the week when the Portuguese professional football competitions will stopped, because National Squad played, in November 15th at the Da Luz Stadium, the play off first leg of the European qualifying for the South Africa World Cup 2010 European Qualifying.
